FRANKSTON MUSIC FESTIVAL INC. IS AN INCORPORATEDNOT FOR PROFIT ASSOCIATION.
OUR AIM IS TO PROMOTE LIVE MUSIC IN FRANKSTON.
FRANKSTON HAS A DIVERSE AND VIBRANT MUSIC SCENE SUPPORTED BY GREAT VENUES AND LOYAL FANS.
FRANKSTON MUSIC FESTIVAL AIMS TO CONNECT THESE OVER ONE WEEKEND AND REALLY SHOWCASE FRANKSTON’S MUSIC SCENE.
Frankston has long been a live music destination for Melbournians. Frankston is nationally recognised as a music city.
Proudly Frankston Campaign Inc. (PFC) was the incubator of several positive initiatives:
Frankston Wine & Food Society
Lazy Long Lunches
Committee for Greater Frankston.
Following four years of lobbying from a small group wanting a community-based Frankston Music Festival, in December 2016 the Committee of PFC decided to back the concept and thus initiated Frankston Music Festival, an annual event which would:
Showcase Frankston’s existing diverse and vibrant music scene with great live music venues and many loyal fans.
Be on the Australian festival calendar in Autumn - outside the peak summer season.
Be indoors festival-thus weather proofed.
Connect with our community organisations with support from Council/Government and commercial sectors.
Embrace live music in participating venues across Greater Frankston.
Be held on the last week end of April.
VISIT FRANKSTON IN AUTUMN
Autumn in Frankston and on the Mornington, Peninsula is serendipity. Enjoy our UNESCO listed region in the softer sunshine and the pastel colours. There's no better spot on the whole planet at this time of the year.
PUB ROCK AND FRANKSTON INTERNATIONAL GUITAR FESTIVAL
Frankston has long enjoyed a reputation for a vibrant and sometimes edgy music scene, Frankston attracted all the great touring bands of the day (AC/DC etc) to its iconic pub music night life, right through the heady years of Countdown and the rise of Australian music.
Twenty years ago Frankston was famous for its International Guitar Festival, but was not able to financially sustain this on an annual basis.
Inspired by this earlier national recognition, a new approach was then sought which would showcase the more diverse local live music and create an attraction for residents and visitors alike; a source of community pride.
THE INAUGURAL FRANKSTON MUSIC FESTIVAL 28th-30thAPRIL 2017
The first Festival was held just 12 weeks after the first organising committee was formed to commence planning - we had no budget and no financial sponsors.
Frankston Music Festival Inc. (No. A 000984571) was separately Incorporated on 14th February 2017.
Over the three days from more than 3400 patrons enjoyed 30 quality performances at 13 participating venues across Greater Frankston thus establishing that a community-based music festival model can succeed.
THE SECOND FESTIVAL 26th-29thAPRIL 2018
For 2018 we fine-tuned some of our processes based on the lessons learned. We received financial support from Frankston City Council. The result over the four days was: 4500 patrons attended 54 performances (featuring 194 performers) at 18 Official Participating Venues. An excellent result.
THE THIRD FESTIVAL 26 APRIL - 4 MAY 2019
In 2019 we again learned from previous years and as a result decide to hold the launch and opening act in the main theatre at Frankston Arts Centre. Jeff Duff was amazing as Bowie and he had the crowd rocking in a packed theatre. We hosted other headline acts including Jeff Jenkins who took on the role of Bob Dylan in 'True Confessions Revisited', we also had a performance from Russell Morris and many more established as well as up and coming artists.
